Hello, and welcome to my website! Please take a moment and allow me to share with you some of my musical history.
Growing up in a musical household in Belleville, Ontario, music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a young child I studied violin, piano and flute before focusing on violin. At age 12 I joined the Quinte Symphony and discovered my passion for orchestral playing. During high school I began teaching at the Suzuki Violin School in Belleville and this is where I first discovered the joy of teaching. My post-secondary school education began at Queens' University where I studied Violin Performance and was the concertmaster of the Queen's Symphony. Later, I moved to Montreal to continue my violin performance studies at McGill University. During that time I was a member of the McGill Symphony, the McGill Baroque Orchestra and was an avid chamber musician. One of only two dozen violinists accepted from across Canada, I was a member of the acclaimed National Youth Orchestra of Canada for three consecutive seasons.
While studying Violin Performance at McGill I accepted a teaching position in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at the Algoma Conservatory of Music. Here I gained valuable experience as a full time violin instructor, teaching students of all ages from 3 to 76. I founded and directed the Conservatory Concert Strings youth orchestra, was a member of the Algoma String Quartet, and was a principal player in the Algoma Chamber Orchestra. Over the years my students have won numerous awards for their Music Festival performances and several have been selected to compete at the Provincial level. In 2013, one of my students placed 1st in Ontario for the Grade 8 division at the Provincial Finals. Other students of mine have gone to study music at the university level at schools including Western Michigan University, De Pauw University and Wilfrid Laurier University.
After 16 years of teaching in Sault Ste. Marie I've recently moved back to Kingston. I've also rejoined the Kingston Symphony and have begun teaching from my home in the West end.
